I don’t know Vanessa Hidary personally, but I know her work….its personal. Her body of work speaks for a multitude of people, genders, and relationships. The Last Kaiser Roll in the Bodega was a written testament to the strength pulled from Vanessa’s life experiences. It was all that I expected but nothing that I expected all wrapped in one. This review was meant to be received much sooner, but something kept pulling back in, something kept asking me to please pay attention specifically to it. I happily obliged. This book is a roller coaster of emotions making you pay attention and think at the speed of two trains leaving different stations at the same speed; where they meet in the middle is up to you…. but you’ll love it there.–> Read more »

What better way to debut this wonderful blog than to provide poets around the globe with an amazing chance to present their masterpieces to the masses? So, we hopped on a plane and we wound up, somehow, in Boston!

Here before you stands an amazing opportunity. Through many hills and mountains, plus a phone call to some very close friends in high places, I have returned with the holy grail of information.
Behold:
We are looking for someone who is interested in scripting and potentially performing a piece for a video art exhibit we are developing. The exhibit is at a nationally known historic site, so in addition to the three $500 prizes we are awarding, the winner(s) would also get great exposure – the site sees almost 1 million visitors every year. We wanted to make sure that the Poetry Community knew about the contest, and was wondering if you’d be willing to help us spread the word to your communities via your email list, facebook, or just good old word of mouth?

“Democracy IS a work in progress, which is why we want to open up our creative process! Help us script a video art installation about Lincoln ’s legacy. You could win a $500 prize and possible national exposure! We are looking for a poem that will work as a spoken word piece that can be incorporated into a video art installation that pays tribute to Lincoln ’s legacy and highlights the theme “Democracy is a work in progress.” The winning piece or pieces will imbue the program with a lively, contemporary feel and provoke curiosity, discussion, and reflection about Lincoln ’s legacy.
